Step 4: Make Your Travel Arrangements to SMSU

Now that you have been admitted, received your I-20, and obtained the student visa, you can finally make your travel arrangements to Marshall, Minnesota!  It's time to pack your bags for your journey here.  New international students cannot enter the U.S. more than 30 days before the semester begins.  You will be turned away and fly home at your own expense if you arrive more than 30 days early.  Plan to arrive 1-2 days before the Mandatory International Student Orientation (MISO) scheduled for Monday, August 14th, 2023.  If you arrive any earlier, you must make your own arrangements for lodging and travel to SMSU.  Here are some things to consider:

Once you have made your travel plans, we look forward to meeting you at the Mandatory International Student Orientation (MISO), see Step 5.

Note:

DO NOT enter on a visitor visa (B-1 or B-2) or any other visas other than the F-1 visa.  This will cause further complications for you and can delay your plans to study.
