Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL)
Southwest Minnesota State University is offering a Master of Science in Education with an emphasis in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL). The TESL emphasis is also available as a licensure if you are not looking for a full master's degree. For a licensure in TESL you can take the 27 credits from the TESL emphasis without taking the core education courses required for a master's degree.
This emphasis will prepare teachers to meet the state requirements for ESL instruction. The emphasis will increase knowledge and skills in research-based practices for working with English-language learners. The program contains 30 total credits, including 8 three-credit classes and a 3 credit practicum. This program will lead to a K-12 ESL license in Minnesota.
The TESL emphasis is offered ONLINE.
For more information on the curriculum please check out the course descriptions located in the academic catalog.
