K-12 Reading Licensure for On Campus Students
Interested in obtaining a reading license? Consider the following questions:

Are you an elementary or Title I teacher who would like to become a reading specialist?

Are you a secondary reading teacher who needs a reading license to keep your current teaching position?

Are you a teacher who is looking for quality professional development?
If you answered yes to any of the above questions, SMSU's Reading Licensure Program is for you!
Reading Licensure Program:
This program, added to a current teaching license, will prepare you to meet Minnesota's state requirements for reading instruction. The reading licensure program consists of five courses. See Catalog for additional information.
Portfolio:
At the culmination of the reading program, reading teacher candidates will present their reading portfolios for review. The evaluation will be conducted by two graduate faculty members and be based on the 2010 Minnesota Reading Standards.

A scheduled portfolio review will take place in Academic Commons at the following dates and times:

Reading Licensure Testing Information:
Beginning September 1, 2010, Minnesota’s testing program is called MTLE: Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examinations. As of September 1, 2010, only MTLE tests can be taken for Minnesota licensure. An applicant adding a licensure field to an existing Minnesota classroom teaching license must pass:
* Test of content knowledge for the new licensure field, which consists of two subtests.
