Follow the steps below to place students into the appropriate English for Multilingual Speakers courses.

Listening

* Scores 90 or above - indicates proficiency in speaking and listening and waives enrollment in an EMLS Listening and Speaking course. Students who score 90 or above may register for COMM 110.

• Course Code: EMLS 125
  • Score: 70-79.9
• Course Code: EMLS 095 & EMLS 125
  • Score: Below 70

* Notwithstanding submission of students’ entrance exam scores (i.e., SAT/ACT) to SMSU, the completion of the EMLS ACCUPLACER exams is required for the purposes of course placement

Validation Period

The period the acceptable placement score is valid for purposes of course placement.
