In May, 2016, several musicians from the SMSU Bands traveled to Spain for a 9-day tour of music and culture. The tour included visits to important historical and cultural sites around central Spain. Highlights of the tour included visits to the Royal Palace and Prado Museum in Madrid; the cathedral in Toledo; the old university in Salamanca (which celebrates its 800th anniversary in 2018); the walled city of Avila; the wine cellars of Aranda De Duero; and a flamenco show.
Additionally, the band performed concerts at:- the Centro Cultural Adolfo Suarez in Tres Cantos
- the Santa Maria Church in Aranda De Duero, and
- the Church of the Monastery de San Blas in Lerma.
